Hi,

I would appreciate your opinion's, is a degree without the honours part
worth anything, I realise it does to a point when applying for certain
vacancies, but overall is it worth anything?

A degree without honours is roughly equivalent to taking an honours degree at an
ordinary university and failing the honours element.
So no, it is not worth anything, especially when applying for a job where other
candidates did not fail.

I would say that it depends on your outlook. A degree without honours is
still recognised as a high level of education & its certainly higher than an
HNC/D. I am led to believe that employers do look favourably on those with
OU degrees as it shows a great deal of commitment, especially as it is not
full time study, i.e. you usually have to hold down a job, look after a
family, etc & still make time for your course.

However, I believe I am right in thinking that an OU BA or BSc is 300
points. If you completed studies to 360 points of which at least 120 points
must be at level 3, then I think you should be able to reach an honours & so
convert to a BA (Hons) or BSc (Hons). They don't have to be named degree to
obtain honours. (I think I am right here, but please don't quote me).

In any event, imho, a degree with or without honours is certainly better
than none at all, but don't forget, if you have the relevant experience in
the jobs you are applying for, that in itself can be far more valuable than
a degree as many job ads that I've seen often use the experience angle.

Best of luck,

kds :-)

For a BA (Hons) or BSc (Hons) you need 360 points, 300 is without the Hons.
